Melbourne April 3rd 2013, Gamma Solutions introduces the i.roc® Ci70 –Ex from ecom instruments in inconjunction with Intermec. A PDA for mobile workers in ex-areas. The i.roc® Ci70 -Ex mobile computer has been designed to be ex-safe in Zone 1 and 2 ex-areas. It uses the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and is the only device on the market to support all WLAN standards (IEEE 802.11 a, b, g and n).
The First mobile computer designed to be ex-safe from scratch. The Intermec Ci70 combines a power-saving processor for long battery performances with all current WLAN standards for rapid and secure data transmissions as well as UMTS support within a single device. The explosion-prevention experts at ecom instruments, in conjunction with Intermec – one of the market leaders for ruggedized PDAs – have now developed a platform that right from the outset of its conception meets the demands set out in the requirements for ex-certification.
In this, the new PDA is unique because mobile devices for ex-areas have to date only been made safe for use in hazardous environments by retroactively adapting them to comply with current standards. Developing a device “from scratch“ also allows the latest technologies – for instance, support for current WLAN standards and UMTS – to be built in from the start. And any required peripherals, such as RFID readers, bar-code scanners and HART modems, can also now be integrated into the mobile ex-computer which means that it is also possible to produce generally ergonomic designs.
