EVERETT, Wash, January, 2007 – Intermec Inc. has selected semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom to supply advanced Wi-Fi® technology for Intermec wireless mobile computers, including the new Intermec CN3 and CV30. Broadcom’s highly-integrated AirForce One™ single-chip Wi-Fi radio is among the most compact IEEE 802.11 chipsets in the industry, allowing high-quality wireless LAN connectivity in small electronic devices.

The addition of Broadcom’s AirForce One Wi-Fi technology optimises Intermec device security, roaming and interoperability and offers higher levels of integration, power savings and voice over IP performance. The chipsets are designed to withstand the high levels of radio frequency noise found in environments common to Intermec customers, such as industrial and warehousing applications.

The Intermec CN3, the smallest rugged mobile computer in the world, is packed with communications capabilities that ensure users have access to voice and high-speed data wherever they go, for increased productivity. With integrated GPS capabilities and Broadcom Bluetooth® technology, the Intermec CN3 mobile computer increases efficiency and improves safety by enabling onscreen and hands-free turn-by-turn voice navigation. With 3G WAN and Cisco Compatible WiFi® connectivity, users can be connected with voice and high-speed data anywhere, increasing their flexibility and productivity. Flexibility is increased even further by the ability to choose between GSM/EDGE and CDMA/EV-DO. And the choice between area imager and 1.3 megapixel camera means CN3 users can scan and decode any kind of barcode or capture still images, such as signatures or video images that can be stored for later use or sent immediately anywhere in the world.

The Intermec CV30, the most flexible, rugged, fixed-mount computer ever built. Introduces a new class of flexible computer built for fixed or mobile rugged performance in industrial warehousing, material management, work-in-progress and shipping/receiving applications. The Intermec CV30 is built rugged to excel in dirty and dusty environments, freezing conditions and water wash-down procedures. And with a choice of Microsoft Windows CE.NET 5.0 or Windows Mobile 5.0 operating systems, multiple mounting options, Cisco® Compatible WiFi®, Bluetooth® and RFID support, the Intermec CV30 can be deployed just about anywhere.

Meeting Intermec’s high standards for wireless capability, Broadcom’s chipsets also provide device compliance with the latest in Wi-Fi security standards, such as WPA and WPA2, and maintain current Cisco Compatible (CCX) certifications, ensuring the most advanced wireless device operation and interoperability.

“The introduction of the Intermec CN3 and CV30 continue Intermec’s visionary approach to business innovation,” said Jeff Baer, Senior Marketing Manager for Broadcom’s wireless LAN products. “The Intermec and Broadcom partnership works because both companies have aligned their technologies and business plans with what wireless users want – state of the art wireless technology that allows companies to continually reach for improved business performance.”
